Most doctors are ill-equipped to tackle Britain’s increasing frequency of lifestyle-related diseases because they know worryingly little about how nutrition and exercise can improve health, a group of medics has claimed.

In a letter to the GMC and the Medical Schools Council, they ask, as a matter of urgency, for support towards the introduction of evidence based lifestyle education, including basic training in nutrition and the impact of physical activity on health and chronic disease into all medical curricula. This should also extend into continuing medical education (CME) for current doctors. The letter also states they believe such training would benefit other healthcare professionals, such as  nurses.
