Diploma Ceremonies

Diploma ceremonies are one of the most popular events in the College calendar. They are our chance to welcome you, our new Fellows and Members, and your guests to our College. It may be your second visit (after the examination); we hope it will be less nerve-wracking than the first and that you are persuaded to come back and see us many more times thereafter.

The Ceremony

Fellows and Members travel from all over the world to attend our diploma ceremonies, which take place six times per year. Diplomas are presented by the President or the Dean of the Dental Faculty. Other special medals, diplomas and awards, such as Honorary Fellowships, Fellowship ad hominem and medals for outstanding examinations candidates are often presented during the ceremony.

Diplomas are signed by the President, Honorary Secretary and when applicable the Dean of the Dental Faculty. They are then embossed with the College seal.

As well as your name listed in the national newspaper, The Scotsman, we will also take some photographs of you receiving your diploma and post them on our Facebook site so that you can share your achievement with your friends and family.

Drinks Reception and Dinner

Diploma Ceremony and SculptureDiploma ceremonies take place on Fridays at either 2:30pm or 4pm and are followed either by a formal dinner or a drinks reception. Before the ceremony, you will be welcomed to our College at any time during the day.  A professional photographer will be there to take your photograph, along with photographs of your family.  You can walk around our campus and browse the gifts in our College shop. The ceremony and drinks reception is complimentary for diplomates, with guests asked to pay £15 each.  You can bring up to two guests with you. If you would like to join us for the formal evening dinner, the cost is £65 per person, including diplomates.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the diploma ceremony at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. It was a suitable end to the examination process. It was good to meet up with fellow graduates from all over the country."

Ben Stutchfield MRCSEd, Specialty Registrar in General Surgery
