Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine

The College houses the Intercollegiate Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and administers an examination on its behalf. The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (FSEM) works to develop and promote the medical specialty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM).

The specialty is concerned with the accurate diagnosis, management and prevention of medical conditions and injury in those who participate in physical activity. SEM is made up of three elements; exercise as a way to improve health, exercise as treatment for illness, and the treatment of injuries from sport. While practitioners do treat elite sportspeople, the specialty has a large-scale application in improving the health of the general public.

This is a Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians of London and was established in 2006. For further information visit the website www.fsem.ac.uk
